Aluminum sunshadesLong spans of store front and curtain wall framing systems coupled with unique architectural aluminum products create a distinctive exterior appearance for the Sedgwick County Juvenile Department building.

The Juvenile Department building was glazied with PPG Industries Atlantica tinted glass over Sungate 500(3) hard-coat low-e glass. Atlantica’s rich emerald-green tint compliments the overall appearance of the building’s exterior design.

Spectrally selective Atlantica coupled with Sungate 500(3) low-e glass creates an exceptional balance between high light transmittance and effective solar heat control with a light to solar gain ratio of 1.60.

Kawneer’s EnCORE thermal framing system, used in the project, enhances a building’s thermal performance by preventing the shift of glass due to climate change and building movement. This effectively reduces the amount of air and water from infiltrating the aluminum framing system.

Distinctive aluminum sunshades project out from above the storefront glass system, a design becoming popular in modern commercial architecture.
